Graduating with an art degree in 1973, Harriet Huss has been a lifelong professional artist. She began her painting career as a featured artist for Island Art Gallery, Grand Cayman Island. Currently, her popular images are in numerous galleries throughout Florida and in private collections worldwide.

Beginning as a watercolorist, Harriet has developed, over a period of years, a mixed media technique to achieve richer color, lush surfaces and luminosity of imagery. She employs media as diverse as acrylic paint, watercolors, colored pencils, watercolor crayons and oil pastels in varying combinations depending on the piece. Some works include an embedded black & white or sepia original photograph shot by the artist on location. Many layers are required to build up the brilliant depth and color. She does not use the computer as an illustration tool. Each original piece is painted by hand.

Harriet's original work sells quickly and for that reason most of the images you see on this website are only available as Archival Pigmented Ink Giclees.

Influenced by Fauvist color palettes, Chagall's dreamlike imagery and Kandinsky's use of line, Harriet's artwork tells a colorful story of the Real Florida. Making use of the abstract and figurative alike, Harriet Huss captures for the viewer a folksy, Florida world of nostalgia, vibrancy and magic.
